Do you know how maple syrup is made? Ask a second grader at NAC Elementary, and they can explain it to you. Not only did they learn about the process, they became syrup producers! From tapping trees, to collecting sap, weather monitoring, and boiling, they did it all. And let’s not forget the important job of taste testing! They completed their experience by treating their families to a pancake breakfast. NAC is proud to participate in the New York Agriculture in the Classroom Schoolyard Sugaring program. Thank you to the teachers who made this possible, along with the collaboration of several local maple syrup producers. Darrell Reyell from Reyell’s Sugar Shack in the Back worked with the students and guided them throughout the process. We also received donations of equipment, expertise, and syrup from Chazy Lake Maple, Lashway’s Flat Rock Maple, and Trombley’s Maple. What an amazing opportunity!
