Sunday, October 22, 2023, Update
Dear NAC Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We appreciate your patience with us reaching out to you regarding the recent event impacting our computer network. We have worked diligently these past couple of days to gather as much information as possible about what happened in order to provide you with accurate information.
On October 17, 2023, we detected and contained unauthorized activity within our computer network. Immediately upon identifying the incident, we took the network offline in order to stop the unauthorized activity. In addition, we engaged a specialized cybersecurity forensic firm to assist us with securing the network environment in order that we may safely put our systems back online. The forensic firm is also conducting an investigation to determine the extent
In the interim, while a number of the computer systems remain offline, due to the lack of a threat of physical harm to anyone, we will be open for class as usual on Monday, October 23rd.
At this time, the investigation remains ongoing. The forensics and IT teams are working closely together. They are working overtime and on weekends to restore the network and investigate the extent of the incident. We anticipate having the results of the investigation in the coming weeks.
Upon completion of the investigation, we will be able to determine whether an unauthorized third-party accessed certain individual personal information during this incident. Should it be found that personal information was accessed by an unauthorized user, with the assistance of legal counsel, we will ensure all potentially affected individuals are appropriately notified and that Northern Adirondack CSD complies with all applicable state and federal breach reporting requirements.
We realize that this is a critical issue, and we are working around the clock to rectify this as soon as we can. In the interim , we will continue to provide high quality student care throughout thanks to the hard work of everyone involved.
We will share more details with everyone when that information becomes available.
Sincerely yours,
James C. Knight, Jr.
